How do I log on?
From the Supersession menu, select CSTL (instead of DC1 or DC1L or CSRL). You may need to scroll (PF8) thru the Supersession menu if you don't see it on the first page. You will be routed directly to the Student Database menu. If you are not routed directly to the Student Database menu, refer to the chart below for alternate logon instructions.

I cannot find CSTL (or CST) on my Supersession menu. What do I do?

  1. On the CL/Supersession Main Menu, move your cursor to the very top line in the window (next to "Actions Options Commands Features Help"), type an "A", and press [enter].
  2. You should now be on the Action Code Menu screen. Leave the cursor where it is, type an "L", and press [enter].
  3. You should now be on the Add Sessions to Selection Menu screen. Scroll forward by pressing the F8 key until you see CST or CSTL. Make sure the cursor is on the CST or CSTL line, type an "A", and press [enter]. You should see a message that says "sessions added".
  4. Continually press the F12 key to exit the screens until you come back to the CL/Supersession Main Menu.
  5. CST/CSTL should now be included in your session list.

How do I move CSTL (or CST) to the first page of my Supersession menu?

  1. On the CL/Supersession Main Menu, tab your cursor to the Command line at the bottom of the page. Type "reorder" and press [enter].
  2. You should now be at the Reorder Menu. Scroll forward by pressing the F8 key until you see CST or CSTL. Move the cursor to the CST or CSTL line and tab to the Order column. Type "9999" and press [enter].
  3. Press the F12 key to exit the screen and return to the CL/Supersession Main Menu.
  4. CST/CSTL should now be at the top of your session list.

When I log into CSTL I do not get the Student Database menu--I get a message about an ACF2 violation. Why?
Most likely, you are in more than one user group (having access to multiple systems, such as DARS, Payroll, and Student Systems) and your default group is not Student Systems. It is possible that your initial default group is not what you want; if so, this can easily be corrected. See the chart below for instructions on logging in to different systems.

How do I know if I'm in more than one group?
Most staff members are in only one group. If you have access to DARS or Payroll as well as the Student Database System, you are in more than one group. You will need to log in to some systems specifying a group code. To find out the specific group codes that have been assigned to you, please call either Ethel Brotten (if you are a department scheduler) at 642-0313, or Russell Low (all other users) at 642-7009.

How do I decide what my default group should be?
Most people prefer that their default group be the system that they use most frequently. If you are a member of a Payroll group, it must remain your default.

How do I change my default group?
If you are a department scheduler, please send an e-mail to Susan Tonus; otherwise, send an e-mail to Russell Low. Please specify which group you would like to be your default.

What is the difference between the CSTL region and the CST region?
The CSTL region defaults to your default group, so you do not need to specify a group when logging on. If your default group is Student Systems (formerly DC1 or DC1L), using CSTL will bring you directly to the Student Database menu.

The CST region ALWAYS requires a second logon in which you can specify your non-default group.

I used to go straight to the Room and Class Menu when I logged on. Can I be set up like this again?
Unfortunately, the current configuration routes everyone to a single menu, the Student Database Main Menu. From this menu you can select the Class and Room option.

What do I do if I get a blank screen?
If you get a completely blank screen after selecting eiher CSTL or CST, it is probably because you did not log off the system properly when you used it the last time. Simply enter "STU0" to go to the Student Database. To log off properly, keep pressing the "clear" key (control-Z on a PC) until you see a blank screen (sometimes pressing the F9 key will take you to the blank screen right away); then enter "bye" to log off the system.

How do I report problems I encounter?
Please report any unusual situations, such as those listed below, by calling or e-mailing the person as indicated below. The more detail you can provide (such as what data you entered on which screen and what function keys you pressed, as well as the exact text of any unexpected error message) the better.

  • Menu item missing
  • Unusual error message
  • System not producing expected results
