Additional Fee Information
Undergraduates
New undergraduates who have paid the required $100.00 Statement of Intention to Register fee will have this fee automatically deducted from the total amount of fees on their billing statements.
Nonimmigrant international undergraduates are assessed a $226.00 Health Insurance Fee.
School of Optometry
Students admitted to the O.D. program for the Fall 1996 semester are assessed a Professional Degree Fee of $1,000.00 in addition to the above fees. Students admitted to the O.D. program for Fall 1997 or Fall 1998 are assessed a Professional Degree Fee of $1,500.00 in addition to the above fees.
School of Law
All students in the School of Law are assessed an Instructional Materials Fee of $15.00. Students in the J.D. program are assessed a Special Fee of $188.00. Students admitted to the J.D. program for the Fall 1994 are assessed a Professional Degree Fee of $1,000.00. Students admitted to the J.D. program for the Fall 1995 are assessed a Professional Degree Fee of $2,000.00. Students admitted to the J.D. program for the Fall 1996, Fall 1997, or Fall 1998 are assessed a Professional Degree Fee of $3,000.00.
School of Business
Students admitted to the M.B.A. program (not including the Evening Program) for the Fall 1994 are assessed a Professional Degree Fee of $1,000.00. Students admitted to the M.B.A. program for the Fall 1995 are assessed a Professional Degreee Fee of $2,000.00. Students admitted to the M.B.A. program for the Fall 1996, Fall 1997, or Fall 1998 are assessed a Professional Degreee Fee of $3,000.00.
Students in the Evening M.B.A. program are assessed a University Registration Fee of $178.25, an Educational Fee of $771.50, a Berkeley Campus Fee of $42.75, a Health Insurance Fee of $226.00, an Evening M.B.A. Program Fee of $8,250.00, and a Nonresident Tuition Fee (if applicable) of $4,692.00.
UCB-UCSF Joint Medical Program
All students in the UCB-UCSF Joint Medical Program are assessed a Medical Disability Insurance Fee of $30.50. Students admitted to this program for the Fall 1994 are assessed a Professional Degree Fee of $1,000.00 and a Special Fee of $188.00. Students admitted to this program for the Fall 1995 are assessed a Professional Degree Fee of $1,500.00 and a Special Fee of $188.00. Students admitted to this program for the Fall 1996 are assessed a Professional Degree Fee of $2,000.00 and a Special Fee of $188.00. Students admitted to this program for the Fall 1997 are assessed a Professional Degree Fee of $2,500 and a Special Fee of $188.00. 
Miscellaneous Fees
- A course materials fee (CMF) is assessed to students enrolled in specially designated courses. (For the Spring Semester 1999, Physical Education activity courses (numbered 1-5) require the CMF.) The fee, which varies by section and is indicated in the course listings, is assessed to students enrolled in these courses at the end of the 8th week of instruction. Students who drop the course(s) after that date are not entitled to a refund of the CMF.
- A Laboratory Fee of $40 is assessed to students enrolled in certain Chemistry courses. See Chemistry course listings for details.
- A Late Enrollment Fee of $50 is charged to continuing students who fail to call Tele-BEARS and enroll in at least one class by the end of Phase II.
- A Late Registration Fee of $50 is charged to continuing students who fail to pay their registration fees (either in full or the first installment) by the fee payment deadline.
- An Add Fee of $5 per course is charged to students who add classes after the third week of instruction.
- A Drop Fee of $10 per course is charged to undergraduates who drop classes after the second week of instruction, and charged to graduate students who drop courses after the third week of instruction.
All fees are automatically billed to student accounts by the Campus Accounts Receivables System (CARS) and will be reflected on their monthly CARS billing statements.
Requests for waiver of these fees must be substantiated with proof that failure to meet the deadline(s) was due to the action or inaction of the University. Direct requests for waivers to the Office of the Registrar, 120 Sproul Hall.
