Registration and Enrollment

Official Verification of Attendance and Degrees

The Official Verification of Attendance and Degrees bears the embossed seal of the University and signature of the University Registrar, and is printed on security paper. It is commonly used for proof of degrees earned, registration, student loan deferments, and eligibility for grants, scholarships, services, etc. Official verifications include the following information:

  • Student name
  • UC Berkeley school or college
  • Major(s);
  • UC Berkeley school code;
  • Degree(s) earned at UC Berkeley;
  • Degree date(s);
  • Term(s) enrolled;
  • Beginning and ending dates of term(s) enrolled;
  • Enrollment status for term(s) enrolled; and
  • Semester units carried for term(s) enrolled.

Most verifications are provided over the counter in 120 Sproul Hall, or sent via 1st class mail. There is no fee for this service.  See Additional Services below if you require information, documents or services different from or in addition to those described above.

Current Students

Student Self-Service Verifications are now available to students registered for the current termThis service is free, easy to use, and secure. Accessible via Bear Facts (under Academic Records >> Verifications>>Self-Service Verifications), this service is provided by the National Student Clearinghouse and enables you to print your own:

  • Enrollment Verification Certificate - proof of registration, enrollment status and anticipated graduation date for grants, scholarships, services, etc.
  • Good Student Discount Certificate - proof of registration, enrollment status and eligibility for grants, scholarships, discounts and services that require a GPA of 3.00 or higher

Student Self-Service also enables you to:

  • View and print your enrollment history (since this is a new service your enrollment prior to Summer 2013 may not be available)
  • Check information about your student loan deferments and electronic notices sent to your lenders

Important Note: The information provided via Student Self-Service is updated weekly every Tuesday afternoon to reflect your registration status as of 5:00 pm the preceeding Friday.

Other Verifications: If you're officially registered for a term that hasn't begun, or if you require more information than that provided via Self-Service Verifications, you may also request an Official Verification of Attendance and Degrees on Bear Facts (under Academic Records >> Verifications>>Other Verifications).  Or visit Cal Student Central, 120 Sproul Hall, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  There is no fee for this service.

If you have a specific form you wish to have completed, see Third-Party Forms below. If you wish to check your GPA and completed units before requesting verifications, log on to Bear Facts (under Academic Record >> All Grades).

 

Incoming Students

You must be officially registered before we can verify your attendance. This means you must be enrolled in courses, have paid at least 20% of your tuition and registration fees, and have no registration blocks. Once registered, you may use all the services described above under Current Students. Or visit Cal Student Central, 120 Sproul Hall, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

 

Alumni & Summer-Only Students

Alumni and summer-only students may obtain an Official Verification of Attendance and Degrees by completing a Request for Verification and submitting it to Cal Student Central, 120 Sproul Hall, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Alternatively, you may mail your request to the address below. Your verification will be sent 1st class mail to the destination of your choice within 3-5 business days. There is no fee for this service.

You may also obtain a degree or attendance verification online through the National Student Clearinghouse. However, this vendor charges a fee for verifications.

 

Third Parties (not affiliated with UC Berkeley)

The University has contracted with the National Student Clearinghouse, a nonprofit organization serving the higher education community, to verify the attendance and degrees of UC Berkeley students and alumni for all employers, service providers and other third parties. This vendor charges a fee for verifications.

 

Third Party Forms

The Office of the Registrar does not complete and certify third-party forms requiring information provided on the Official Verification of Attendance and Degrees (listed above) or on the Enrollment Verification and Good Student Discount certificates available through Student Self-Service on Bear Facts. Many service providers and partner institutions have been advised of this policy, but feel free to print this letter from the University Registrar and submit it with your verification document.

Additional Services – $10 special processing fee

Services in addition to those described above are available for a special processing fee of $10. For the services described below, complete a Request for Verification and submit it in person to Cal Student Central, 120 Sproul Hall, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or mail it to:

Third-Party Forms with specialized information
The Office of the Registrar will complete and certify third-party forms that require information different from or in addition to that listed above for a special processing fee of $10 per document. Your form will be mailed to the destination of your choice within 3-5 business days.

Customized Verification Documents
The Office of the Registrar will create and mail a verification document other than an Official Verification of Attendance and Degrees for a special processing fee of $10 per document. Your verification will be sent 1st class mail to the destination of your choice within 3-5 business days.

Notary Services
The Office of the Registrar will notarize UC Berkeley official transcripts, diplomas or verification documents for a special processing fee of $10 per document. We make arrangements to have documents notarized twice a month on the business day nearest to 1st and 15th of each month. Up to 15 days may elapse before notarized documents can be sent via 1st class to the address of your choice.

Express Shipping
Express shipping of your verification document is available at the rates shown below. In addition to the cost of shipping, there is a $10 special processing fee for this service. We cannot accept credit card payments. Make your check or money order payable to UC Regents.
