CSIR Information Page
General Information
CSIR is the system of record for all data concerning teaching activity and space utilization, and data collected through CSIR has direct influence on resource allocation decisions at all levels.
Specifically CSIR is used:
- # by the Budget and Interdepartmental Relations Committee when it conducts FTE allocations;
- to distribute resources for Temporary Academic Support and faculty authorizations;
- to report instructional workload to the Office of the President and California Legislature;
- for annual space Utilization reports affecting capital project funding;
- to determine whether a department is meeting its goals as outlined in individual departmental teaching policies (e.g., number of classes taught per ladder faculty);
- to keep track of average class size and types of courses taught by individual faculty;
- for Ad Hoc Reporting.
DB2 is the live student database housed on the campus's IBM mainframe computer and is the primary student system. Department Schedulers use DB2: Class and Room to access the CSIR screens. CSIR and CLASS share a system to accomplish two different missions. CLASS is used to schedule classes, finals, etc. CSIR is used to collect data to report faculty workload and facility utilization. CSIR is a second screen to the CLASS Update screen.
Who uses this system and when?
Departmental schedulers use this system throughout the semester and confirm data at the end of the semester for campus statistical purposes.
Access
Access is granted to all Departmental Schedulers and Backup Schedulers, therefore Log-on access to Class and Room gets you access to CSIR screens. See Scheduling access notes for more info on timeline, etc.
Training
This can be requested on an individual basis with Linda Wong. Linda calls new coordinators and schedules individual training when the Errors and Omissions report is sent.
