Official Transcripts - Office of the Registrar

Degrees are posted on a student’s official transcript approximately three months after the end of the term.

Please note: Degree completion is contingent on all grades for all semesters being posted to the transcripts.

Ordering or Requesting a Transcript

Read the sections below for information about ordering transcripts. Please note there is a specialized transcript request process for the following:

Berkeley Law students and alumni may order transcripts directly from the Law School Registrar.
UC Berkeley Extension students and alumni may order transcripts from UC Berkeley Extension directly.

Current Students

Current students may order transcripts online through our student portal, CalCentral, or they may order paper copies on the spot at Cal Student Central in 120 Sproul Hall.

Berkeley can now send fully electronic transcripts (EDI) to receiving institutions. This is the fastest and most secure method. Effective January 1, 2020, transcripts are no longer withheld if a student has a Financial Hold.

Alumni and Summer Visitors

Alumni and summer sessions visitors may order transcripts using Parchment.

Berkeley Law Alumni

Alumni of Berkeley Law should visit the Berkeley Law website for information on ordering a transcript.
Current Students

Current students may send a transcript to an application processing service such as AMCAS (American Medical College Application Service), LSDAS (Law School Data Assembly Service), PHARMCAS (Pharmacy College Application Service), other processing services, or order through CalCentral.

Alumni and Summer Visitors

Alumni and Summer Sessions visitors may order transcripts using Parchment.

Note: The UC Berkeley transcript order forms (for current students and alumni) include a field to add the unique identifier for your application. Therefore, you do not need to include additional forms to be "attached" with your order.
If you attended during Fall Semester or Spring Semester, a transcript will be forwarded to your home campus approximately five to six weeks after the term has ended. Your coursework and grades will be included in your home-campus record. If a change occurs after the work is transferred, a replacement transcript will be sent to the home campus.

Graduate with Money Owed to the University

Effective Spring 2018, students who owe money to the university will be able to graduate, but their diplomas will be withheld. Once a student makes their payment and the system is updated, the student will be emailed to verify their mailing address for the diploma.

Proof of Graduation Before Degrees Are Posted

Undergraduate Students

Degrees are posted to the official transcript approximately 3 months after the end of the term.

Diplomas are not available until approximately 4 months after the end of the term.

Once your degree has posted, you can request a transcript or education and degree verification as proof of graduation.

Registered Undergraduate Students

In a small number of cases, students who demonstrate an urgent need for proof of degree conferral may submit a request to Expedite Degree Posting to Transcript. Note: You must log in with your official Berkeley email to access the request form. The request form becomes available at the beginning of the month when each term ends (for Summer, the month all sessions end).

Degrees, including expedited requests, cannot be posted before a term ends. At the earliest, a degree can be posted to the transcript after the end of the term (for Summer, after all sessions end). However, this is not guaranteed, as a degree conferral is contingent upon all grades for all terms being posted to the transcript in addition to college review and approval. Since several offices must review a candidate’s academic record, these requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. After all your grades are posted and you have submitted your request, please allow 3 to 5 weeks of review time.

Non-enrolled students who need proof of graduation (before the end of the term of graduation) can submit a request for a Certificate of Completion. Requests will be reviewed and processed only after the end of the add/drop period for the semester of graduation and before the end of the term of graduation.

If you submit a request for a Certificate of Completion after your graduation term is over, your request will not be processed because the Office of the Registrar is already posting degrees at that point.

All graduation requirements must be fulfilled for this certificate to be released. Please allow our staff up to 10 business days to complete your request and mail the paper certificate to you.

Graduate Students

When all requirements are satisfied in the system, a Certificate of Completion is automatically generated and emailed to each graduate student.

Special Order Requests

If family members are living, they must order the transcript for themselves using Parchment.

If the family member is deceased, you may order the transcript by including a death certificate or obituary along with the order. Please write a letter and include the following:
- Name
- Birth date
- Dates of attendance
- Field of study (if known)
You can send us the letter via physical mail to: Transcripts, Office of the Registrar, 128 Sproul Hall, University of California, Berkeley, CA 94720-5404, or email us at transcripts@berkeley.edu. The transcripts will be sent via first-class mail and could take up to 30 days to arrive. There is no fee for this service.
